Sanford Lecture Series

The Sanford Lecture Series, named in honor of the late Al Sanford, professor of geophysics at NMT from 1957 to 1997, aims to bring a scientist to the department who distinguished themselves in a field of earth science. The lecture series was established in the academic year 2017/18 and is sponsored through donations to the E&ES General Alumni Fund. It is named after Al Sanford to honor his legacy to New Mexico Earth Science and his long career at the department. Wonderful memorials summarizing Al’s career and achievements, including the discovery of the Socorro Magma Body (roughly in the 60s), have been published in SRL and the El Defensor Chieftain. Through a generous donation from his family, the “Dr. Allan R. Sanford Memorial Endowed Fellowship” was established.
