QuASAR is a New Mexico Tech (NMT) club based upon the principles of equality, respect, and acceptance regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. We are dedicated to increasing awareness and instilling pride and security within the LGBTQ community of the Socorro area through social interaction and volunteering our time to benefit various LGBTQ-affiliated organizations. Additionally, we offer education of sexual identity through the use of literature, guest speakers, and advice for those who seek it. As a chapter of oSTEM (Out in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), we attempt to address the needs of our fellow LGBTQ students in STEM disciplines. However, students of any major are encouraged to join us.

History

While QuASAR has only been around for a few years, much has been accomplished. We are now an official oSTEM chapter, and we are proud to be a part of this national organization. We also organize a support group dedicated to the LGBTQ community here at NMT, and we invite you to join us. In group we try to foster a safe, supportive space where everyone can feel comfortable.
