Complete FT dating facilities are available at New Mexico Tech under the supervision of Shari Kelly. We have a mineral separation lab for concentrating apatite and zircon, facilities for mounting, polishing and etching the samples, and a petrographic microscope dedicated to FT analysis. We date the samples using the external detector method. The microscope has a stage fitted with a digital micrometer that allows easy, precise translation between the grain mount and the external detector. In addition, confined track length measurements are recorded using a drawing tube and a digitizing pad connected to an IBM PC. The samples are irradiated at the Texas A&M Nuclear Science Center.
