Other Services
It's not just tutoring that the OSL provides! We also organize the following events:
Supplemental Instruction (SI)
We are excited to add another service to our list! Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a peer-support academic program offered at many universities across the US and abroad. SI was developed at the University of Missouri-Kentucky in 1973 and can be defined as a non-remedial approach to learning that consists of regularly scheduled and out-of-class group study sessions ("SI Sessions") driven by students’ needs. Sessions are facilitated by trained peer leaders (“SI Leaders”) who utilize collaborative activities to ensure peer-to-peer interaction in small groups. SI is implemented in historically challenging courses in consultation with academic staff and is supported and evaluated by a trained supervisor.
In the Fall 2025 semester, SI Sessions are offered to support Calculus 2 students. Since Calc 2 has a reputation of being a pretty challenging course, it seemed to us that this is where we should focus our efforts. There are two Calc 2 sections and each section has a designated SI Leader who runs two help sessions per week. Our SI Leaders are Evan (working with Dr. Orizaga) and Logan (in Dr. Wolford's section), both highly qualified and motivated students who "have been there" and know how to support Calc 2 students. If you're taking Calc 2 this semester—don't miss out on this extra boost!
Calc 2 SI Session Fall 2025 schedule:
Dr. Orizaga's section: Tue 6-7pm & Thu 5-6pm
Dr. Wolford's section: Mon 2-3pm & Thu 6-7pm
All SI Sessions are held in the Computer Lab (Room 208 in Skeen Library).
Finals Extravaganza
A massive review session run by the OSL which helps students prepare for their final exams. Held during the final week of classes, it features various sessions facilitated by instructors with help from TAs and OSL tutors.

Student Research Symposium
The SRS, which takes place every spring, is a unique opportunity for all Tech students to present their research in the form of poster presentations, oral presentations, and a 3-minute speech competition. The event is organized by the OSL and Skeen Library, in collaboration with NMT Faculty and Staff. All NMT students are invited to act as volunteers and graduate students are encouraged to sign up as evaluators for poster sessions.
