Summer Camp Parent FAQ – Everything You Need to Know (and Maybe a Little More!)
Welcome to our Computer Science Summer Camp! We’re thrilled your child is joining
us for a summer filled with learning, friendship, and fun. Below are answers to our
most commonly asked questions from parents — if your question isn’t answered here,
just reach out. We’re here for you!
Q: Who attends this camp?
We welcome a total of 120 students, divided into two sessions:
Session 1: Rising 11th and 12th graders
Session 2: Rising 6th–10th graders
This helps us tailor both the academic content and the social environment to the right
age groups. Each student is placed in a group of peers close in age.
Q: Who’s watching over my child?
Your camper will be supervised around the clock by a team of trained counselors and
faculty members. Every adult who interacts with students has:
Passed a state-approved background check
Completed our training program on student care, safety, and behavior management
We maintain a supervision ratio of approximately 8 campers per adult, ensuring your
child is never far from a friendly, responsible face.
Q: Where will my child sleep?
Campers stay in secure, gender-specific dorm buildings, with roommates of the same
assigned-at-birth gender and similar age.
Fun fact: In our very first year, students were placed in single rooms... and by night
two, we had a line of them begging to bunk with their new best friends. We’ve made
roommate bonding part of the experience ever since!
Q: What about safety and security?
We take the safety and wellbeing of your child very seriously.
Dorms are monitored and locked
Staff is on-call 24/7
We uphold strict supervision policies
Medical and emergency protocols are in place at all times
We’ve designed every part of this camp to be a secure and nurturing environment for
students to thrive.
Q: What will my child be learning?
The camp focuses on Computer Science, with an emphasis on:
Coding languages and their real-world applications
Collaborative tech projects
Problem-solving through fun competitions (hello, battle bots!)
Students of all experience levels are welcome — from beginners to budding engineers.
For our 11th and 12th graders, we offer an actual college course for credit (don’t
worry — it’s only other high schoolers in the class!). It’s an amazing way to challenge
themselves and earn early college credentials.
Q: Will there be fun activities too?
Absolutely! We believe balance is key, and our evenings and weekends are packed with
energy:
Pool parties
Pizza nights
Battle bot competitions
E-sports and gaming nights
...and plenty of surprises!
Q: Can my child bring their devices?
Yes! In fact, we encourage campers to bring their cell phones, tablets, and laptops
to stay connected and work on projects.
Each student receives a personalized Wi-Fi login that limits access to inappropriate
content. While we do our best to filter online activity, please understand that we
cannot monitor what students do on their personal devices 24/7. We encourage families
to talk with their child ahead of time about responsible digital behavior.
Q: How do I stay in touch with my camper?
Campers will have their phones and can reach out during free time. We also share updates
and photos throughout the session so you can catch glimpses of their experience (and
see those pool party smiles in action!).
Q: What should we pack?
A full packing list will be sent to you after registration, but it includes:
Bedding and towels
Casual clothes + swimwear
Toiletries
Laptop/tablet/charger
Favorite snacks (if desired) And most importantly, a great attitude!
*Please note money is NOT necessary, and there is very little opportunity to spend
it. There is a bookstore on campus and a coffee shop. Everything else, including snacks
at the movies on movie nights, is included in the camp. We have some VERY generous
donors who BELIEVE in the future of STEM!
We can’t wait to meet your child and give them an unforgettable summer full of learning,
laughter, and lifelong friendships. If you have more questions, please don’t hesitate
to contact us!
