NASA Invites Student Team To Present Design Proposal

Enterprising Techies are one of only 10 teams nationwide selected for NASA's invention competition

 

SOCORRO, N.M. – A team of New Mexico Tech students was selected for a NASA research competition with their proposal to develop a portable wireless signal booster that can address communication issues in remote locations.

Five students who got a NASA invitation to pitch research projectIn recent years, the space agency has invited universities to market and commercialize NASA inventions. The MUREP Innovation and Tech Transfer Idea Competition was launched to facilitate the development of intellectual property.

The NMT team was one of 10 university teams selected to present a commercialization plan to NASA in late January at Johnson Space Center in Houston. The team members are Alexander Kral, Adam Nordby (team lead), Daniel Pacheco, Troy Pacheco, and Troy Vigil. Dr. Frank Reinow is the P.I. on the project, and visiting assistant professor Dr. Youngbok Ryu is advising the team.

If selected to pursue the project, the team will be invited to AMES Research Center and present their ideas to various companies in Silicon Valley. The team would further develop their instrument with Verus Research in Albuquerque to market their invention. The team will work with several NMT professors and EMRTC researchers to build and test a prototype.
