Three New Mexico Tech students recently won prestigious scholarships from the American Society of Materials (ASM International). The scholarship awards were announced on Oct. 21 during the Rio Grande Symposium in Albuquerque, organized by ASM International.
- Chemistry master’s student Nusrat Yeasmin earned first place in the graduate student category. She is the only NMT graduate student to receive this scholarship.
- Rachel Philips, a senior majoring in materials and metallurgical engineering, came in first in the undergraduate student category. Yeasmin and Philips work with Dr. Arjak Bhattacharjee, assistant professor in Materials and Metallurgical Engineering, on 3D printing for biomaterials and sustainability applications.
- Isabella Garcia, a junior majoring in materials and metallurgical engineering, won the scholarship as a runner-up in the undergraduate student category.
“These highly competitive scholarships motivate students to excel in the classroom and research lab,” said Dr. Paul Fuierer, Materials and Metallurgical Engineering Department chair. “I convey my congratulations and best wishes to these three young women for successful and exciting careers ahead."
