SOCORRO, N.M. – High school students in grades 9 to 12 and their parents or guardians are invited to spend a day exploring the science, engineering, and research opportunities New Mexico Tech has to offer. Saturday, Nov. 5, 2022, is Exploration Day, a daylong in-person open house aimed at showcasing academic offerings, extracurricular opportunities, and all the advantages New Mexico Tech provides.

Parking and attendance is free and open to interested high school students and up to two guests. Space is limited, so prospective students must register online to reserve a spot to attend Exploration Day: https://apply.nmt.edu/register/explore22 

Exploration Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at various sites around the New Mexico Tech campus in Socorro. After a check-in from 9 to 9:30 a.m. at Fidel Center, the student center on campus, will have free breakfast available, and students and their guests will gather for a presentation from the Office of Admissions covering the application process, deadlines, and required information such as test scores.

After an overview presentation by the deans of engineering and arts and sciences, students and their guests can tour various academic departments, such as Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Psychology, the Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources, and more. Students will have the opportunity to meet faculty members and students, ask questions about academic offerings, and learn more about hands-on research opportunities for undergraduates.

Presentations on financial aid, residential life, and tours of dormitories will be offered. Students and their guests also can drop in on a club and organization fair, on-site admissions assistance, and spend time learning about academic and extracurricular activities like robot combat competitions, e-sports gaming, and drone operations.    

Free lunch for registered prospective students and their guests will be available in the Fidel Center Cafeteria, provided by NMT Dining. Exploration Day guests also are encouraged to visit the Skeen Library and its student assistance resources and then stop by the New Mexico Tech Bookstore to check out the clothing and other merchandise available.
