New Mexico Tech Hosts Club and Community Resource Fairs
Sept. 2, 2022
SOCORRO, N.M. – A wide array of campus and community organizations provided New Mexico Tech students with information and resources at two recent events. More than 70 campus clubs and organizations had tables, displays, and demonstrations at the Club and Resource Fair Thursday, Aug. 25. And local businesses and community organizations staffed information booths at the inaugural Tech and Town Festival Saturday, Aug. 27. The event also featured a rugby scrimmage, student and faculty bands, food, and activities.
Both events were aimed at welcoming new students to campus and introducing them to community and college resources. More events for students and the Socorro community are listed in the Weeks of Welcome online and downloadable evolving guidebook: guidebook.com/g/nmtwow/. During the “Weeks of Welcome,” which began Aug. 14 and concludes Sept. 11, new students are being introduced to the campus and the Socorro community, clubs and organizations, traditions and activities, and facilities and resources – all to ensure a successful start to their lives as New Mexico Tech students.
Women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) who are members of the Alpha Sigma Kappa sorority hosted a table at the Club and Resource Fair Aug. 25. Members touted benefits such as study groups, support and advice, movie nights, volunteer activities, networking, and travel opportunities.
At the Engineers Without Borders table at Tech and Town Fest Aug. 27, members said they hope to sponsor a community service trip to tackle an engineering project this year. The group once sponsored a service project in Guatemala before the pandemic.
TriBeta Honor Society members also touted the benefits of belonging to their group at the Tech and Town Fest. Attending conferences, participating in community service, and spending time with the club mascot, “Simba,” are just a few of the biology honor society members discussed with students at their recruiting table.
