202 Recruits Visit NMT For Research@Tech Day
February 17, 2020
SOCORRO, N.M. – New Mexico Tech enjoyed a record turnout for Research at Tech Day on Monday, with 202 high school students touring campus.
Prospective students were treated to an explosives demonstration at EMRTC to start the day. More than 500 visitors (including parents) attended a welcome event at Macey Center.
Student clubs set up tables in the Fidel Center. V.P. for Academic Affairs Dr. Doug Wells (pictured at right) welcomed the visitors with a 10 a.m. assembly at Macey Center. Most of the prospects were from New Mexico, yet out-of-state students and parents came from Washington, California, Colorado, Texas, and Oklahoma.
Admission Director Tony Ortiz discussed applications and Kenny Aerts discussed financial aid. In the afternoon, students toured campus, met current students, and visited academic departments. Scholastic clubs, sports teams, and academic departments hosted booths in Fidel Center over the lunch hour and into the afternoon. (At right, rugby players hosted an information table).
Ortiz said the event is an important day for prospective students to get to know campus and become familiar with NMT people, places, and programs.
“Our recruiting trips are bearing fruit and we’re starting to build momentum,” Ortiz said.
