New Mexico Tech Day at the Legislature
February 5, 2020
SANTA FE, N.M. -- New Mexico Tech took center stage at the Roundhouse in Santa Fe on Monday, Feb. 3, on New Mexico Tech Day.
“This is a great honor for the university and a special opportunity for us to showcase
all the talented people and unique programs we have in Socorro,” said university President
Dr. Stephen G. Wells. “Most elected officials, legislative staff members, and other
decision makers are familiar with what we do at New Mexico Tech; however, this event
will permit us to provide a closer look at the people of Tech and the impactful projects
we have ongoing.”
In addition to the official memorial, students, professors and staff members hosted
booths to greet lawmakers, staffers, media members and visitors.
Several of Tech’s research divisions and academic departments hosted information booths throughout the day that highlight their service to New Mexico and the world of science, engineering and research. Staff offices, such as the Admission Office, were available to answer general questions about the university.
The event coincided with Earth Science Day at the legislature. The Bureau of Geology, along with the N.M. Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department, awarded two lifetime achievement awards at a noon ceremony.
