Shore rose to prominence in the late 1980s and early 1990s when he hosted his own show on MTV, “Totally Pauly.” Since then, he has appeared in dozens of movies and made numerous guest appearances on TV shows. He is also a sought-after stand-up comedian, touring the country regularly.

Student Activies Board director Jessie Morris and S.A. President Joaquin Roibal wanted to bring a top name to perform during 49ers. They asked Annine Gabaldon, student activities coordinator, to go after a star.

“I couldn’t contain myself when I found out Annine could get Pauly Shore to come here,” Morris said. “Oh my Lord, I am so excited. I’ve seen all his movies. Pretty much everyone I’ve talked to has seen all his movies too.”

The show is billed as “Pauly and Friends,” and will include three comedians. The first act will be 15 minutes, followed by a 30-minute set. Shore will deliver an hour-long performance. 

The first 500 tickets for full-time students will be free. The remainder of the tickets (about 250) are $25. After one day, Gabaldon said she’s already distributed 100 free tickets to students and sold 50 to the general public. All tickets are available only at the gym. “We’re going to have a packed house,” Morris said. “We wanted to bring in a comedian who is funny and would appeal to students. And Pauly Shore came through for us.”

In 1993, Shore wrote and starred in a one-hour HBO television special, Pauly Does Dallas, which drew in more loyal fans. He had roles in many memorable comedy films, including Encino Man (1992), Son in Law (1993), In the Army Now (1994), Jury Duty (1995), Bio-Dome (1996) and The Curse of Inferno (1997). 

His first comedy album, "The Future of America," was named Best Comedy Album by the college music journalists in 1991. His second album, "Scraps from the Future," won a Best Sellers Award. His third album, "Pink Diggly Diggly," was taped live at his mother Mitzi Shore's famed Los Angeles improv club The Comedy Store, where Pauly received his stand-up comedy initiation.

Shore is a recurring guest on Howard Stern's late-night show, as well as David Letterman's and Craig Kilborn's talk shows. He's been surrounded by show business all his life. In addition to mother Mitzi, father Sammy Shore was a well-known comedian who once opened for Elvis Presley during the Vegas years.
