New Mexico Tech Performing Arts Series presents a songwriting workshop with Austin Music Hall of Fame songwriter Eliza Gilkyson.
Registration includes a pre-session buffet breakfast from Sofia’s Kitchen, plus one drink ticket at the Capitol Bar, all ages welcome (but non-alcoholic drink for you under 21 songwriters!). Bring an unfinished or “stuck” song to work on with the group in a supportive learning environment.
Eliza Gilkyson has a natural bent for teaching and sharing what she has learned over the course of her 50-year career in music. She creates a non-judgmental setting to facilitate exploring songwriting and pushing through blocks and self-doubt. She encourages students of all ages and genres to bring their songs in any form or stage so students can woodshed with a pro and learn from and with other participants in the song circle.
Gilkyson's credentials include repeated Songwriter of the Year and Best Folk Artist from a variety of organizations, and countless other awards. Her songs have been covered by Joan Baez, Bob Geldof, Tom Rush, Rosanne Cash and more, and have appeared in films, PBS specials and on prime-time TV. With more than 20 recordings under her belt she knows how to write songs! Price is $20/NMT Students; $40/Regular. Register at nmt.edu/pas.
