Sunset on the beach

Our beloved Technical Communication professor Rosário Durão is taking some time to enjoy the beauty that is Portugal by going to the beach, eating figs, and enjoying sunsets. She is also exercising her creative brain by exploring potentialities and trying new things such as painting and cooking. This allows her to learn new skills, and to simply relax and experience life.

Our tireless professor is currently working toward completing the "Graphic and Digital Design Certificate" from Parsons School of Design, to both build new skills and enhance her current ones before heading back to the Land of Enchantment to teach classes. This certificate covers many Graphic and Digital Design concepts, and Dr. Durão has found particular interest in the limitless applications and possibilities of typography.

Some of the classes she will come back to teach are for the new Masters of Public Engagement in Science, Design, and Communication degree. This degree program includes classes such as "Applied Research Methods", "Media, Communication, and Public Engagement", and "Communication, Product, and Experiential Design". The degree is aimed at scientists, engineers, and anyone wanting to enhance their communication and design skills for the public good. Rosário is "very proud to have been instrumental in shaping it with Chris, Nick, and Jesse by using design thinking methods. This is a totally innovative program because of these methods and these amazing colleagues”.

Dr. Durão’s skills and experiences already are, and will continue to be, a phenomenal asset to the students and staff of New Mexico Tech, which she described here: “It’s beautiful and I have an amazing group of colleagues. Above all, I have an amazing set of students and some of them fall in love with graphical communication and that makes everything worthwhile.”
