Service Learning

The Technical Communication program incorperates several experiential learning assignments that allow students to work with real-world clients on projects that impact the NMT and outside communities. Some of these projects involve grant proposals in TC 411 Persuasive Communication, creating promotional fliers in TC 100 Community Service, and documentation in TC 421 Professional Writing Workshop. These projects benefit organizations like the homeless shelter and local food pantry.

NMT has raised over $66,500 for the local Homless shelter, Puerto Seguro Safe Harbor, and has an overall success rate in grant writing of 60%

TC 100 Community Service

The TC 100 class creates fliers for NMT departments to use for recruitment and promotiotional use using Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Publisher, and other programs.

Grant Proposals

TC 411 Persuasive Communication

TC 411 introduces rhetorical theory and persuasive techniques for communication from promotional documents to grants. Students, with the help of the professor, create grant proposals that are submitted and many are successful.

Front Desk Procedures: Puerto Seguro Safe Harbor & NMT Transfer Brochure

TC 421 Professional Writing Workshop

TC 421 students learn to create and edit professional documents for real world clients. Many of theses projects come from outside of the NMT Community and make a difference to that client's organization.
