About the Group

TAIKOPROJECT has dazzled stage and screen audiences for more than 15 years with its unique contemporary blend of Taiko, music, storytelling and choreography. The only American company to win Tokyo¹s prestigious International Taiko Contest, the dynamic, powerful company unites ancient Japanese tradition with 21st century American innovation.

TAIKOPROJECT has made waves by performing with some of the biggest names in music, including: Stevie Wonder, Kanye West, Alicia Keys, John Legend, Usher, Sean Paul, and more. The group has also appeared on the Grammy Awards, the Academy Awards, "The Voice," "The X-Factor," Conan, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and numerous commercials. 

The TAIKOPROJECT ALL-STARS are six of the company’s core musicians performing a high energy, dynamic concert contrasting the power and excitement of traditional Japanese drums with the subtle melodic accompaniment and nuance of the koto (Japanese harp), yokobue (bamboo flute) and marimba.  The TAIKOPROJECT team is comprised of the best and brightest young Taiko performers in the United States.  Based in Los Angeles, the group has been fiercely gender-balanced since its founding in 2000, embracing the multi-cultural openness that has allowed the art form to thrive in America. The company is led by two of their generation's leading forces, Managing Director Bryan Yamami and Masato Baba.
