Assessment Report Submission
Student Learning Assessment Reports are found on the Integrated Planning Workspace. To gain access to the Integrated Planning Workspace either to upload reports, work on reports, or view reports, please contact Iver Davidson, Director of the Academic Center for Technology (ACT).
The Integrated Planning Workspace is designed to promote best practices and shared information about our department, program and office activities through assessment of our programs and offices for institutional planning and continuous improvement.
The Integrated Planning Workspace is an internal workspace for sharing information. Thus, NMT offices and departments can view your reports; however, no one outside of NMT has access to the Integrated Planning Workspace or your reports.
The reports are designed to be data-driven with concise narrative. Do not report the names of students the reports uploaded to the Integrated Planning Workspace.
There are two types of NMT assessments:
1. The assessment of student learning according to our Institute-Wide Student Learning Outcomes, specific program outcomes and general education core outcomes by both academic departments and pertinent co-curricular or non-academic offices or programs. Student Learning Assessment Reports are used to report this assessment information.

2. The assessment of activity or productivity for all offices and departments through Activity Reports with reporting about possibilities for growth for future or strategic planning.

The Integrated Planning Workspace is the NMT electronic assessment and activity data repository and workspace that houses Program/Office/Department Activity Reports and Student Learning Assessment Reports.
Reports in the two workspaces are reviewed by administration, faculty and staff to guide financial and other planning decisions.
Reports are uploaded to the Integrated Planning Workspace by September 1 of each year:
- Academic Departments report on the academic year, so Fall, Spring, Summer.
- Non-academic offices or programs report on the fiscal year, so July 1 to June 30.
Reports can be prepared on the word document blank report form and uploaded as a pdf completed report to the Integrated Planning Workspace.
Or, reports as a word document can be uploaded in the Integrated Planning Workspace for reporting to be done collaboratively by department or office members and then converted to a pdf when finalized.
Having the reports completed and available for viewing by September 1 means that the reports will be available with formalized, written information that your Vice President can use to inform the President before he leaves for the Legislative Session.

Some notes concerning the Student Learning Assessment template and explanations of information to be provided:
"Our department believes we fulfill this Learning Outcome because: (state evidence in 30 words or less)"
Without this column, the form does not have a "cap" on achievement, implying that
the department is never doing enough and must keep raising the score. Because 100%
of students achieving in all Learning Outcomes, or any one Outcome, is not feasible,
Department Chairs with their departments will decide on what percentage constitutes
"Assurance." For example, CLASS Department considers that 70% of students who achieve
the specified Learning Outcome constitutes Assurance.
Because CLASS uses a 3 pt. scale for assessing student final projects (3=Strong; 2=Moderate; 1=Poor), an average of 2.1 is 70% and would qualify that Outcome to be listed under "Assurance."
In 30 words or less in 9 pt. Arial font, the Department Chair will state why the department believes the Learning Outcome has been fulfilled. If, at some future date, "Assurance" is achieved for all Outcomes for a specified period, the department will:
- consider ways to improve the lower percentage Outcomes
- consider raising the percentage that constitutes "Assurance"
"Our department will implement the following adjustment or improvement: (state adjustment or improvement plan and target date in 30 words or less)"
After your department decides on the percentage that constitutes Assurance, the Learning Outcomes that fall below that percentage will be listed under "Adjustment/Improvement." In 30 words or less in 9 pt. Arial font, the Department Chair will explain the adjustment or improvement that will be implemented and by what date.
Beginning with the 2011-2012 Student Learning Evaluation/Assessment Report, submit a chart or graph showing the percentages of each Learning Outcome for subsequent years for comparison/trend data for each program, major, general education core being evaluated.
