Annual Assessment Reports Due October 1, 2021

1. Outline of this year's actvities.

2. Student Learning Outcomes (examples and counterexamples).

3. Characteristics of an assessment report (including the use of a Google Form to provide departments feedback and a potential rubric to assist with providing consistency when evaluating reports).   

4. Potential items to consider for next year (development of a template for departments to use).

NMT's New General Education Assessment Plan was submitted to the NM Higher Education Department.

Representatives of programs teaching general education classes will meet to discuss the new state-mandated  essential skills for content areas, and coordinate Tech's approach to the assessment.  See NMT's General Education Assessment website for more details.

Assessment Task Force Meeting, 1 - 2 pm, March 29, 2019, CITL

The main topics for discussion are (1) ways to improve our annual review process, and (2) the new general education assessments.  Interested faculty and staff are always welcome to join us at our meetings.  Dr. Zagrai (Chair, Mechanical Engineering) has volunteered to join the Task Force and this will be his first meeting.

All reports have been returned to programs and offices for review and revision, Feb 25, 2019.

We appreciate all of the hard work that faculty and staff put into the reports.   If you wish to revise and resubmit your report in response to the review comments there is still time.

Next Assessment Reports Due Oct 1, 2018

Assessment reports for the reporting period 2017-2018 are due October 1.  The Assessment Task Force has revised the rubric/review form it will use in response to a critique by Gloria Rogers, and has created a cover sheet that should be submitted along with the reports.  Please read the detailed review comments provided in the last review prior to completing your report.  Completed reports should be sent via email to Peter Mozley.

9:00 am – 2:30 pm, KEYNOTE WORKSHOP, Are your students developing necessary knowledge and skills? Workshop on assessment of student learning, with an emphasis on program assessment. Lunch will be provided for all participants. If possible, please RSVP to Peter Mozley (peter.mozley@nmt.edu). (Gloria Rogers, Senior Scholar for the Higher Learning Commission and Managing Director, Professional Services at ABET.)

Update: The workshop was a great success, with representatives from all major programs and several cocurricular offices in attendance.  Gloria also provided a critique of our institutional assessment processes, which will result in some changes to the Assessment Task Force rubric among other things.  Copies of her PowerPoint slides can be obtained by contacting Peter Mozley.
